This Tuesday Chainmonsters will have its Genesis sale. If you’re excited about Chainmonsters, this could be a good moment to spend to money on the game. Thankfully, players who simply want to have a good time, will be pleased to discover that they can actually earn while having fun in the world of Chainmonsters. However, if you have the ambition to really earn then it’s likely best to also invest a bit. In a similar fashion the rewards from boss challenges and dungeons also come in four rarities, and only epic and legendary ones are actually NFTs. These upgraded versions are automatically NFTs, allowing players to sell, use or trade the NFT gemstone. Players can find common and rare gemstones in the game world, and these can then be upgraded into epic or legendary ones.

These Mint Tokens don’t have any functionality yet, but this will happen with the first major content update for the beta test. When the Mint Token gets burned, the system creates an NFT on the Flow blockchain.
These are consumables and allow the owners to mint a captured Chainmon onto the blockchain. Bside Games revealed that every Season Pass will include Mint Tokens. Players can catch hundreds of Chainmons, but not every Mon exists on the blockchain. For example, the Beta Season Pass includes 25 NFTs and 75 additional in-game rewards including resources, currency and materials.

These NFTs can add all kinds of gameplay mechanics and game systems to Chainmonsters. Players can consume some NFTs, while they can collect others. This means that the game economy from Chainmonsters is not based on crypto, but only on NFTs. Players will need to buy this currency through for example Apple Pay to unlock for example the Season Pass or other time-limited drops and bundles.
Aside from the in-game currency, there’s also a Premium Currency. This currency doesn’t exist on the blockchain, and will allow players to buy a limited amount of resources per week or even per month. Through gameplay players can always earn the in-game currency. It will probably be a challenge to really earn… but those who’ve played Vanilla WoW know what grinding is. In the development update Bside Games noted that gamers will need to spend ‘enough time’ in the game to earn something.

German game studio Bside Games said in a recent article about the game economics, that free-to-play gamers can find resources, make these into higher-grade resources to eventually mint NFTs and sell these on the open market.Įarning money from a blockchain-powered game is a challenging proposition for a game designer, because making things too easy will ruin the game’s economy.
